Sometimes cancers such as colorectal cancer or unresectable intrahepatic cholangiocarcinomas can spread to the liver. If your cancer has spread in this way, you may be a candidate for a hepatic artery infusion (HAI) pump — also known as HAI treatment.
A small HAI pump is placed under your skin and connected to the hepatic artery (the main artery in your liver). The pump delivers high-dose chemotherapy directly to liver tumors, helping target the cancer more effectively while limiting chemo exposure to other parts of your body.
Our expert team has the expertise to safely and effectively treat liver cancer with HAI technology. We combine advanced treatment with personalized care to give you the best possible outcomes.
A small, surgically implanted pump (usually in the abdomen) slowly infuses chemotherapy through a catheter connected to the hepatic artery. This method delivers chemotherapy directly into your hepatic artery (the main blood supply to liver tumors) and bypasses the rest of the body. Since your liver metabolizes much of the chemo before it reaches other parts of your body, HAI treatment maximizes tumor targeting and minimizes harm to healthy tissue.
However, keep in mind HAI is often used together with standard (systemic) chemotherapy. This combined approach treats liver tumors directly while also targeting cancer that may have spread elsewhere in the body.
You're not alone on this journey. Whether you're facing a new diagnosis, exploring treatment options, or simply need guidance, we're here for you.
Call our cancer center at 800-782-2623 to request a referral or ask any questions. You can also talk to your provider about referring you to our cancer center for HAI treatment.
