Over 100 full-time Department of Medicine faculty are involved in our teaching program. All faculty members at our three training facilities have faculty appointments at Loma Linda University School of Medicine. Our staff includes general internists and internists in a wide range of subspecialties.

Amy Schill, MD

Amy Schill, MD

Program Director

Dr. Amy Schill is originally from Weslaco, Texas. She attended Loma Linda University for Medical school and her Internal Medicine Residency. She completed a chief residency year at Loma Linda VA hospital and has been working there in the Academic Primary Care clinic since that time.  Over the past years, she has served in many educational roles for our residents--VA Medical Resident Continuity Clinic Director, IM core faculty, as well as the Internal Medicine Associate Program Director for five years. More recently she has served in the role of Resident Wellness Director for the GME Office for the last three years. Dr. Schill has a passion for resident wellness and making residency training a positive experience for each resident. She enjoys taking opportunities to enhance resident well-being and hopes to continue this focus as program director. She enjoys traveling with her family especially to national parks as well as anywhere that has great whale watching.

Hana Kazbour, MD

Dr. Kazbour is originally from Dearborn, Michigan. She obtained her medical degree at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. She completed her residency in Internal Medicine at Loma Linda University Medical Center.  She stayed an extra year as a chief resident at Riverside University Health System. Afterwards, she worked in Chicago for a year, to be closer to family.  She returned to Loma Linda University Medical Center in 2019 and has been on faculty since. She enjoys being a direct hospitalist, but the most rewarding part of her job is being a teaching attending on the medicine wards and at SACH clinic.  She is passionate about teaching and providing mentorship to residents and medical students alike. She particularly likes to teach bedside ultrasound and procedures. She is a strong advocate for residents, especially when it comes to their learning experience and wellness. In her time off, she enjoys exercising, hiking, eating at new restaurants, but most of all, traveling.

Trisha Pandey, DO

Dr. Trisha Pandey is from San Jose, California but mostly grew up in Texas (Hook ‘em!) She received her medical degree from Touro University in Las Vegas and continued her west coast journey by completing her internal medicine residency at Loma Linda University Medical Center. She stayed an extra year to complete a chief residency position at LLUMC which sparked her interest in residency leadership and procedural medicine. This led to a natural transition to her post-training career as a hospitalist and associate program director at LLUMC. Within the world of inpatient medicine, she is extremely passionate about teaching learners, harm reduction, and medical communication. She also finds great meaning in mentoring and advocating for residents by fostering a culture that promotes a growth mindset. Outside of the hospital, you can find her restaurant hopping, playing tennis, or at the local comedy club!

Andrew Logan, MD

Andrew Logan received his MD degree from the Loma Linda University School of Medicine and completed residency training in Internal Medicine at Loma Linda University. He is board certified in Internal Medicine. After residency he completed a chief resident year at the Jerry L. Pettis Memorial Veterans’ Hospital in Loma Linda. Following this he worked at the Loma Linda University Hospital before joining the Veterans Affairs outpatient clinic and serving as an Associate Program Director. He loves working with residents and students. Outside of the clinic you may find him exploring photography, woodworking, or home improvement projects.

Phuong Tran, DO

Dr. Tran was originally from Massachusetts but later moved to California after graduating from Boston University for her undergraduate studies. She received her Masters of Arts and medical degree from Midwestern University, Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine. She went on to complete her residency in internal medicine at Loma Linda University Medical Center. After completing her residency, Dr. Tran stayed on as chief resident at Loma Linda VA Medical Center where she continued her advocacy for residents. She has since stayed on as attending primary care physician at Loma Linda Ambulatory Care Center. Dr. Tran enjoys mentoring and working with residents as they traverse through their residency journey. She is a big advocate for wellness and work life balance. On her spare time, she enjoys quality time with her family at a park or beach, and watching sports games.

Jonathan Min, MD

Raised in Loma Linda, Dr. Min humorously refers to himself as the "attic child" of our program. He attended Loma Linda Academy and earned his Bachelor's degree from Pacific Union College. Dr. Min then returned to Loma Linda to complete both his medical school and internal medicine training. After his residency, he served as a chief resident at Loma Linda University Health, specifically at the Riverside University Health Systems Medical Center clinical site, from 2020 to 2021. Since then, he has continued to serve as a hospitalist. Dr. Min brings infectious positivity to his work, inspiring residents to find fulfillment in their roles as physicians. Outside of work, he enjoys photography, surfing, and creating content.

Peter Demuth, MD

Primary Care Track Lead Faculty

Peter DeMuth grew up in Pennsylvania and received his medical degree from Penn State College of Medicine. He met his wife, a California native, in medical school and has lived here ever since. He completed internal medicine residency at Loma Linda and stayed on as faculty. In 2021, Dr. DeMuth assumed the role of Primary Care Lead for the residency program. He enjoys training residents at FMG and SAC clinic as well as designing outpatient residency curricula for the unique demands of primary care. Outside of medicine, Dr. DeMuth can be found running, hiking, or gardening near his home in Riverside.

Sonny Lee, MD, FACP

Sonny Lee, MD, FACP

Vice Chair of Education

Dr. Lee received his M.D. from New York Medical College. After completing internship and residency in the Combined Internal Medicine-Pediatrics (Med-Peds) Residency at Loma Linda University, he stayed on as faculty. He has been Board Certified in both Internal Medicine and Pediatrics since 2003 and is participating in the Maintenance of Certification for both the American Board of Internal Medicine as well as the American Board of Pediatrics. He has been involved in Graduate and Undergraduate Medical Education since completing residency in 2003 and has served as Associate Program Director and Program Director of the Med-Peds Residency prior to assuming the role of Program Director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Loma Linda University from 2016 to 2023. He remains passionate about medical education and hopes to further that in his role as Vice Chair of Education. He is married with two daughters. He loves sports of all kinds (watching, playing) but particularly loves watching his daughters play softball and soccer.

Laren Tan, MD

Department Chair

Loma Linda University School of Medicine has selected Laren Tan, MD, as chair of the Department of Medicine.

He earned his Bachelor of Science in Cytology at Loma Linda University School of Allied Health in 2003 and his Doctor of Medicine at Loma Linda University in 2009. He completed his residency in internal medicine at Loma Linda University Medical Center and a fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care at the University of California at Davis. He completed his MBA in healthcare management with an additional dual emphasis in strategic leadership and innovation from the Tom and Vi Zapara School of Business at La Sierra University. Tan is board certified in pulmonary medicine, critical care medicine and internal medicine of the American Board of Internal Medicine.

Tan, who joined the School of Medicine faculty in 2015, is an associate professor of medicine, and currently serves as assistant dean for continuing medical education. “Dr. Tan’s enthusiasm, passion and leadership will continue to grow the Department of Medicine to high achievements in clinical care, medical education, and research excellence,” said Tamara Thomas, MD, dean of Loma Linda University of School of Medicine. “This is a critical time in medicine as California faces numerous challenges, and we look forward to working with him on strategies to educate, recruit and train doctors to serve our communities.”

Tan also serves in numerous leadership roles including director of Loma Linda University Comprehensive Program for Obstructive Airway Diseases, associate director for LLUH Advance Lung Disease Center, associate chief for innovation and growth, and medical director of creative innovation communication and branding for Loma Linda University Faculty Medical Group. Tan has been the principal investigator and author of multiple articles in scientific journals and has presented at sessions of the American College of Chest Physicians, American Thoracic Society, California Thoracic Society, American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology and the American Lung Association.
