Our Compliance Framework

Adopting guidance from a vast legal and regulatory oversight environment, Loma Linda University Health’s Corporate Compliance Program is designed to prevent, detect, and correct a wide array of problems that can occur in healthcare, academic, and research settings. Academic Integrity & Student Affairs

Loma Linda University Health is committed to adhering to the laws, regulations, and accreditation requirements that pertain to Loma Linda University business and academic programs including, but not limited to, federal finance and compliance reporting, academic program enrollment and delivery, marketing and recruitment processes, and grievance processes. We foster a culture of continuous improvement in academic programs and promote academic excellence which translates to quality care, service excellence, student success - personally and professionally, and cutting-edge research provided by Loma Linda University-trained professionals from our eight schools: Allied Health, Behavioral Health, Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Public Health, and Religion as well as our graduate faculty programs, and academic programs at San Manuel Gateway College.

Billing Integrity

Accuracy is of utmost importance when documenting services provided or work performed as part of any reimbursement or payment request process such as provider or hospital facility claim submission, financial or cost reporting, and grant or sponsor required submissions. Loma Linda University Health is committed to ensuring that effective processes and procedures are in place that drive accurate and timely billing and payment-related reports and filings.

Research Integrity

Research activities are conducted pursuant to the policies and procedures established under the Loma Linda University Office of Research Affairs and must be done according to the principles and duties as set forth in Loma Linda University’s Commitment to the Ethical Conduct of Research.

Protecting Confidentiality

Loma Linda University Health is committed to protecting the privacy of information pertaining to our students, patients, research subjects, and donors in accordance with applicable laws and regulations. We recognize that the level to which we are effective in protecting the privacy of confidential information helps to engender trust. For this reason, procedures requiring key controls such as business need-to-know, minimum necessary, secure data storage, and secure transfer protocols are in place to protect confidential information.

Vendor Relations

Loma Linda University Health’s selection of and interaction with vendors is based on transparent and appropriate business, academic, medical, clinical, and/or research criteria without regard to past, present, or future gifts, donations, or other support to Loma Linda University Health or its personnel. All vendor interactions must adhere to Loma Linda University Health policies governing appropriate business relationships.

Fraud, Waste, and Abuse

Loma Linda University Health is committed to conducting its affairs in a manner that is honest and upright. Relationships with business partners, referral sources and suppliers must be maintained in a manner that reflects proper business practices, commercially reasonable transactions, and fair market value. Payment arrangements that involve the exchange of money or items of value for referrals or other benefits are prohibited. Such arrangements call into question the necessity of services provided and the integrity of our business transactions, and they are prohibited by applicable laws, regulations, and Loma Linda University Health policies.

Conflict of Interest

Loma Linda University Health recognizes that personal or financial conflicts of interest in research, academics, and healthcare can compromise or have the appearance of compromising professional judgment. When considerations of personal gain, financial or otherwise, are inserted into decision-making processes, the decisions made can cause direct or indirect harm to those we serve as well as harm to Loma Linda University Health, government and commercial payers, and industry sponsors. For this reason, Loma Linda University Health requires that staff avoid relationships and arrangements that might interfere with the ability to make good decisions on behalf of Loma Linda University Health or potentially create a perception of wrongdoing.

Loma Linda University Health recognizes the importance of responding timely and appropriately to government requests and has assigned individuals primary responsibility for responding to governmental audits and inquiries or hosting or managing accreditation and licensing reviews and surveys.
