Chair, Critical Care Center
Dr. Ihab Dorotta is director of the critical care center and chief of quality and patient safety and clinical operations at Loma Linda University Health. Born and raised in Alexandria, Egypt, Dr. Dorotta’s mother was a key figure in his decision to pursue a medical career in the U.S. She strategized with him on study skills and taught him an unforgettable approach to scripture and prayer that he still shares with everyone in his life. Dr. Dorotta discusses how displaying a calm attitude in critical care situations helps instill confidence in his team and achieve positive outcomes for his patients. Dr. Dorotta’s approach impressed the medical center’s leadership, who selected him to lead a quality improvement initiative in 2017. He details the collaborative and spiritual journey that led to a dramatic turnaround in Loma Linda University Health’s national quality rankings and becoming first in quality in our region.
