Ordering Instructions
If Contrast is ordered:
- BUN and creatinine are required within 30 days before the exam if the patient is diabetic, or is over 60 years, or has a history of renal insufficiency. Based on radiology protocols, we do not inject IV Gadolinium on patients who are on dialysis or have renal failure.
- Allergy prep is required if the patient has a known gadolinium contrast allergy or history of allergic reaction during injection of intravenous contrast. Please call MRI clinical triage if unsure: 909-558-4000 x50945.
Other Ordering Instructions
MRI BREAST BIOPSY INSTRUCTIONS:
- Requires orders for: MRI Breast (77059) MRI Breast Biopsy (19085) and Mammo for Clip Placement (77065) (selected as one exam on form). Radiologist protocol requires the MRI Breast be completed at LLUH on the scanner the MRI Breast Biopsy will be performed on, ensuring the look/conspicuity of the target lesion will not differ as can occur when comparing images from different MRI Scanners (each varies by manufacturer and Tesla strength).
- Patients on blood thinners, Coumadin/Warfarin, are required to stop taking 4 days prior with blood draw for INR day prior to biopsy. The patient will be referred back to physician for discussion of stopping blood thinners and/or using alternative meds. Please give order for labs to be drawn day prior to biopsy. Other NSAIDS must also be stopped 4 days prior to biopsy. Lovenox is held day prior and day of procedure.
