An ophthalmologist is a medical doctor who specializes in eye and vision care. As a medical doctor, an ophthalmologist is licensed to practice medicine and surgery. Optometrist

An optometrist is a licensed healthcare professional who provides primary vision care varying from sight testing to the diagnosis, treatment, and handling of vision changes. Optometrists perform eye exams and vision tests, prescribe and dispense corrective eyeglasses and lenses, detect eye abnormalities, and prescribe medications for certain eye diseases.
