Our Hematology/Oncology fellowship program participates in the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Applicants should submit their application online through the ERAS website. Applications will be reviewed annually in July and August. Invitations to interview will be communicated by mid to late August.

All applicants must participate in the National Resident Matching Program. Three positions are offered each academic year. The appointment to the fellowship program is renewable each year on the basis of satisfactory performance. A California medical license is required prior to beginning fellowship training.

Application Requirements

The minimum documents that must be received by all applicants:

  • CV (must account for all time periods since medical school enrollment)
  • Personal statement
  • Dean's letter
  • Medical school diploma and translation if not in English
  • Medical school transcript
  • Two letters of reference from physicians currently acquainted with applicant
  • Reference letter from program director for each prior training program
  • USMLE scores (need to pass all 3 steps)
  • Letter from Medical Staff Office of any facility where staff privileges have been held (for applicants with practice experience after residency)

If you are an international medical graduate, please submit the following in addition to those items listed above:

  • ECFMG certificate with a valid date

Interview Selection

Eligible applicants should be selected on the basis of their preparedness, ability, aptitude, academic credentials, communication skills, and personal qualities such as motivation and integrity.

Our program participates in signaling. Interested applicants are encouraged to use the signal feature in ERAS. While we preferentially consider applications from those who signal our program, we may also consider qualified applicants who do not signal us.

Interview Process

All interviews will be conducted virtually September-October. Interviews are scheduled for a half-day.

Overview of your interview day:

  • You will have one-on-one interviews with 4-6 core faculty. 
  • You will meet informally as a group with current fellows
