We’re here to answer your questions about our Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly, or PACE.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Loma Linda University Health PACE?

Our Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) is a comprehensive program that coordinates the care of enrolled seniors based on their unique needs, with the goal of helping them remain living at home in their community. Our team has the expertise to diagnose and manage all health conditions seniors face.

Can I get in-home care?

We provide in-home care based upon the assessment of a member of the Loma Linda University Health PACE interdisciplinary team. The in-home care is part of the care plan created when you enroll.

Can I keep my own doctor?

When you enroll in Loma Linda University Health PACE, you are assigned a PACE primary care physician who is a part of an interdisciplinary team skilled in managing care for aging adults. Our PACE team recognizes the importance of a smooth care transition and will allow authorized visits to your former primary care provider.

Can I keep the same specialist or dentist?

PACE has a broad network of specialists and dentists familiar with the program and its participants’ needs. If Loma Linda University Health PACE does not have a contract with the specialist provider you are familiar with, PACE will seek a contract with that provider. You may be personally liable for the cost of unauthorized or out-of-network services.

What happens if I have an emergency after hours?

You can use the after-hours phone number to speak directly to a Loma Linda University Health PACE nurse who is familiar with your care needs. If it is an emergency, the nurse will dispatch an ambulance to your home. If not, you will be transported to the PACE Center the following day for treatment.

Can I just use a specific service, such as home care or the adult day health center?

Loma Linda University Health PACE is a full-service coordinated healthcare plan. When a participant enrolls, our team of healthcare professionals creates personalized care plans for each participant. Therefore, each participant may receive different services depending on their needs. All participants, however, will receive medical services provided by Loma Linda University Health PACE and/or our contracted providers.

Do I have to attend the adult day health center? How often?

Attendance is based on individual needs and allows Loma Linda University Health PACE staff to closely monitor health concerns and prevent emergency room visits and hospitalizations. Your care team will determine your attendance as part of your initial assessment and care plan, and will incorporate it into your personalized care plan.

Can I live alone?

Yes, as long as you and your circumstances meet PACE safety criteria. If needed, a registered nurse conducts a home visit to assess safety and identify concerns.

What is the difference between PACE and other Loma Linda University Health senior health services?

Unlike our other senior health services, eligibility for PACE requires you to be 55 or older, meet nursing home eligible criteria, live in our service area, and be able to live safely in your community. PACE is also both a primary care provider and a health insurer.
