Recipe: Tempeh Mendoan
Servings per recipe: 4
Prep time: 30 minutes
Cook time: 5 minutes
Ingredients
- 1 lb of Tempeh
- Vegetable Oil as needed
Marinade Ingredients:
- 3/4 Cup of Water
- 2 Cloves of Garlic, minced
- 1/2 tsp of Ground Coriander
- 1/2 tsp of Salt
Coating Ingredients:
- 2 1/2 Cups of All-Purpose Flour
- 2 Tbsp of Tapioca Starch
- 3/4 Cups of Rice Flour
- 20 fl oz of Water
- 1 Tbsp of Ground Coriander
- 6 Cloves of Garlic, minced
- 1/2 Tsp of Salt
- 4 Stems of Green Onion, thin sliced on diagonal
Directions
Cut the tempeh into 1/4 inch thick slices.
Combine the marinade ingredients (water, minced garlic, ground coriander and salt) in a small bowl. Coat the tempeh with this marinade, letting each slice sit evenly in the marinade. Set this aside for 15 minutes to let the tempeh absorb the flavors of the marinade.
Coating: Dissolve the flour, tapioca starch and rice flour in the water, stirring until smooth. Add the ground coriander, minced garlic and salt, mixing well to combine. Add the green onion and stir evenly.
Heat a pan to medium heat then add enough oil to completely cover the bottom to about 1/8th inch depth.
Dip a slice of tempeh into the coating mixture, then immediately place it into the hot oil.
Fry the tempeh briefly (do not allow to get crispy), then remove and drain.
Serve hot with sweet soy sauce and a little sambal chili sauce for dipping. Enjoy!
