What career opportunities does your program offer?

Addiction medicine is a multi-specialty subspecialty. You will use your talents and primary specialty to develop your unique career. There are wide-ranging opportunities, a few of which include:

  • Medical director at an inpatient, residential, or outpatient treatment center
  • Medical director at an opioid treatment program (often serving the undeserved)
  • Emergency physician leading an overdose response team
  • Pain management physician
  • Consultant to an organ transplant team
  • Director of professional wellness program (physicians, lawyer, airplane pilots, etc.)
  • Correctional medicine
  • Street medicine
  • Tele-medicine
  • Journalist or public health blogger
  • Policy advocate
  • Expert witness (for example, in criminal and family courts)
  • Participate in problem-solving courts and educate judges
  • Clinical research and teaching in addiction medicine to advance the field

Do we accept off-cycle residents?

Yes, we accept off-cycle residents on a case-by-case basis. We understand that multiple varied reasons exist to alter an applicant’s schedule and we aim to accommodate as much as possible.

How long does it take to obtain a California medical license?

According to the medical board of California, processing times may take three to five months.

When should I apply for a California medical license?

We recommend applying at least six months prior to the fellowship start date.

Do you pay for visas for fellowship candidates?

We are able to sponsor visas on a case-by-case basis.
