Our fellowship maintains an active research program. Faculty at both Loma Linda University and the Loma Linda VA maintain multiple active research projects and are eager to include fellows, residents and students. In addition, Loma Linda university is home to the Adventist Health Study and opportunities are available to get involved.

Research Curriculum Highlights

  • Fellows are provided protected research electives during their first and second year.
  • Fellows are encouraged to identify faculty with research interests that are aligned with their interests.
  • Quality improvement projects are also actively pursued and fellows are encouraged to design and lead a QI project of their interest.
  • Multiple opportunities exist for publications and avatar act presentations.

Postdoctoral Scholar Research Program (PSRP) in the Department of Medicine

The Department of Medicine is proud to offer an enriching Postdoctoral Scholar Research Program designed for International Medical Graduates to participate in research and scholarly activities while preparing for their boards. This two-year program provides a unique opportunity for postdoctoral scholars to develop their research skills and contribute to our research projects.

Program Structure

  • Duration: 2 years
  • Year 1: Unfunded
  • Year 2: Funded by the Department of Medicine, contingent upon evaluation and assessment by the selection committee.

Objectives

  • Enhance research skills in the field of medicine.
  • Enrich applicants CVs by publishing papers in the field of Medicine.
  • Provide experience in writing and publishing scientific research.
  • Prepare postdoctoral scholars for successful research careers.

Responsibilities

Participants in the program will engage in a variety of research activities, including but not limited to:

  • Writing IRB Proposals: Crafting and submitting Institutional Review Board (IRB) proposals to ensure the ethical conduct of research.
  • Literature Search: Conducting comprehensive reviews of existing literature to inform and support research projects.
  • Data Extraction and Analysis: Collecting and analyzing data to derive meaningful insights and conclusions. 
  • Writing Manuscripts: Preparing manuscripts for submission to academic journals.
  • Publication Assistance: Identifying and selecting appropriate journals for publication and navigating the submission process.
  • Conference Attendance: Participating in local and national conferences to present research findings and network with other professionals in the field.

Evaluation and Funding

  • Year 1: Postdoctoral scholars will work under the mentorship of experienced faculty members without funding.
  • Year 2: Funding will be provided based on the evaluation and assessment conducted by the selection committee at the end of the first year. This evaluation will consider the scholar's progress, contributions to research, and potential for future success.
