Our fellows train at three major clinical sites that provide exposure to a wide variety of patients under different clinical settings.  The fellowship program is in good standing with continued accreditation status by Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). We provide excellent clinical cardiology training in all of the required aspects of cardiovascular diseases.

Program Highlights

  • Active advanced heart failure service with more than 20 heart transplants per year
  • Busy cardiac imaging department with high volume of complex echocardiography, cardiac CT and cardiac MRI.
  • Exposure to cutting-edge therapeutic interventional therapies including high-risk complex percutaneous coronary interventions and percutaneous valvular interventions.
  • Strong collaboration with cardiothoracic surgery department with weekly interdepartmental conference
  • In-house fellowships programs available in interventional cardiology, advanced heart failure/transplant, electrophysiology.

Curriculum

Our program allows for fellows to achieve the American College of Cardiology (ACC)/American Heart Association (AHA) level II training in coronary angiography, transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography, nuclear cardiology and computed tomography coronary angiography.

PGY-4 & PGY-5

The first two years of the cardiology fellowship program consists of rotations through the different aspects of cardiology. Active participation in research is an integral part within the duration of training.

PGY-6

The third year offers continued rotations through the different aspects of cardiology and allows emphasis in training in specialized areas. Active participation in research is an integral part within the duration of training.

Didactics

There is a multitude of educational conference opportunities available for fellows to focus and learn about the topic presented. Clinical training is augmented by a robust schedule of conferences including echocardiography, nuclear cardiology, cath conference, guideline conference, board review and grand rounds.

Since 1977, VA Loma Linda Healthcare System has served the men and women who have served our nation. It was recently the winner of the Carey Award for Organizational Excellence, recognizing excellent results for America’s veterans.

Riverside University Health System Medical Center (RUHS-MC)

RUHS-MC has been a part of Riverside County for over 100 years. Their academic medical center has 439 beds and 60+ hospital-based primary and specialty care clinics.

Social Action Community Health System (SACHS)

SACHS is a federally qualified health center that provides health care accessibility to medically underserved people throughout our community. SAC Health System provides general internal medicine and subspecialty specific medicine. 

Research

Fellows are encouraged to initiate and develop plans for research projects. Each fellow is required to complete a high-quality research paper suitable for publication during fellowship.
