This fund was created in memory of Jake Carritte and later became a tribute to both Jake and his father, Jim, who passed away unexpectedly in August 2023 and was deeply committed to this cause. Jake was a student in the Health Informatics program at Loma Linda University School of Allied Health Professions and looked forward to a future of service. He was loved by many, had a strong creative spirit, and faced personal struggles with substance use before his life ended too soon. In their memory, the family invites others to support a program that provides research, education, and support for individuals and families facing substance use challenges.

The Youth Early Intervention and Prevention Fund provides substance-use education for students in grades 6–12, serving faith-based schools and public schools. The curriculum is developed by licensed therapists with support from medical and psychiatry trainees and uses proven materials written for today’s youth. Sessions are led by fellows and residents as part of their training.

The program addresses why teens may try substances, including stress, mental health concerns, and social pressure. Topics include coping skills, stress management, conflict resolution, and the effects of substance use. Funded by private donors, this program helps reach more youth with early education and support.

Thank you for your support!
