Curriculum

Our sleep medicine curriculum and rotations were developed with the goal of training highly competent fellows passionate about this field. The training experience will ensure:

  • Clinical training in all aspects of illnesses related to sleep
  • Potential for growth in educational, teaching, lecturing, administrative, quality improvement, and leadership skills.
  • Extensive education and practice in the diagnosis and management of illnesses related to sleep

Rotations include the following subspecialty clinics:

  • Primary Sleep Clinic
  • Movement Disorders Clinic
  • Dental
  • Epilepsy
  • ENT clinic with management of preoperative and postoperative surgical patients including Inspire implantation
  • Oral appliances, Center for Dentistry and Orthodontics
  • Pediatric clinic Polysomnography (PSG) interpretation
  • VA Continuity Clinic
  • Long-term ventilation
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Clinic

Facilities & Learning Opportunities

Our Sleep Center is accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM), the gold standard for sleep medicine facilities.

  • The Sleep Center includes an eight-bed sleep diagnostic lab, staffed 24/7
  • We conduct 65 pediatric and adult monitored sleep studies per week
  • We also conduct 35 adult ambulatory studies per week

Didactics & Educational Activities

Fellow education is a high priority for the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine. Your training is supported through various didactics, conferences, and simulation sessions.

  • Adult/pediatric PSG interpretation
  • Academic meeting (lectures, case presentations, QI mentorship, board review, journal club
  • VA ambulatory study interpretation
  • Ambulatory EEG interpretation
  • Academic time for QI projects completion and AASM learning modules

Community Events & Activities

As a fellow, you have the opportunity to be involved in diverse functions organized by the department division. You’re encouraged to participate in several community outreach programs. In addition, many social events, both planned and impromptu, help build a mutual professional and personal comradeship between fellows and faculty, which often lasts well beyond the training period.
