  • Carpal tunnel syndrome, where the median nerve is squeezed (compressed) between bones in your wrist.
  • Tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis), where the tendons that bend your wrist backward away from your palm swell.
  • Ganglion cysts: Soft, fluid-filled cysts can develop on the front or back of the hand for no apparent reason. Called ganglion cysts, these are the most common noncancer, soft-tissue tumor of the hand and wrist.
  • Arthritis, which is the loss of joint cartilage, often with inflammation, pain and stiffness. Arthritis can occur in many areas of the hand and wrist and can be very painful.
  • Sports injuries, including all hand and wrist injuries for athletes.
  • Common fractures in the wrist, hand and elbow.
