Our curriculum is designed to meet the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) requirements for certification in cardiovascular medicine. Clinical rotations emphasize autonomy and clinical decision making through direct interaction with our faculty. This method enables our fellows to gain independence in clinical judgment and procedural skills.

Curriculum Highlights

  • The inpatient cardiology clinical service consists of CCU and Telemetry Units dedicated to acute cardiac care.
  • The cardiac non invasive laboratory offers training in ECG interpretation, exercise testing, echocardiography, cardiac CT, cardiac MRI and nuclear cardiology.
  • We have a robust inpatient and outpatient consultation experience, including experience in longitudinal outpatient care for patients with cardiac disorders.
  • Catheterization laboratory experience includes electrophysiologic testing, complex ablation procedures, device implantations, cardiac catheterization, complex high-risk coronary interventions, structural interventions (TAVR, MitraClip, PFO/ASD closure, etc), and adult congenital heart disease interventions.
  • The program has an active cardiogenic shock team that allows for experience in management of critical cardiogenic shock patients and placement of mechanical support devices including intra-aortic balloon pump, Impella left ventricular assist devices, and ECMO support.
  • Elective time is offered for pediatric cardiology and cardiac surgery.
  • Fellows also have opportunities in advanced heart failure therapies, cardiac transplant, and LVAD’s (left ventricular assist devices).

Curriculum by Year

PGY-4 & PGY-5

The first two years of the cardiology fellowship program consists of rotations through the different aspects of cardiology. Active participation in research is an integral part within the duration of training.

PGY-6

The third year offers continued rotations through the different aspects of cardiology and allows emphasis in training in specialized areas. Active participation in research is an integral part within the duration of training.
